It was great speaking with Xavier and his family to discuss his football, academics and the opportunity to pursue the U.S. college pathway. Xavier is currently in Year 12 and has built a strong football foundation, playing First XI football at school while also captaining Cambridge FC U17s and starting regularly for the club’s U23 side. He has also trained with the Cambridge first team, giving him valuable exposure to senior football at only 16 years old. Xavier primarily plays as a defensive/central midfielder and describes himself as a hardworking, high-energy player who competes strongly, distributes the ball well and provides an engine in midfield. He is currently starting the majority of his games and recently played four full matches during his school’s successful Super 8 campaign, including the semi-final and final. From our discussion, Xavier’s motivation for exploring the United States is not solely football. He and his family place significant importance on academics and see the U.S. as an opportunity to combine a high-level sporting environment with a quality university education and valuable life experience. Xavier has expressed early interest in areas such as accounting, business and potentially physiotherapy. Academically, he is progressing well, with the family reporting 33 credits so far, including 11 Excellence, 15 Merit and seven Achieved credits. Based on the information discussed, we believe Xavier is in an excellent window to begin preparing for the U.S. pathway. His current football environment, regular U23 involvement and continued opportunity to develop over the next 12–18 months give us a strong foundation to work from. Our approach would be to keep the pathway broad rather than prematurely restricting Xavier to one division. Once we have completed his academic evaluation and reviewed his game footage, we can establish a clearer recruitment strategy and explore appropriate NCAA Division II, NAIA and junior college opportunities, while continuing to assess whether higher-level opportunities become realistic as Xavier develops. Xavier also has ambitious short-term football goals. He would like to push toward Cambridge’s first team and, importantly, put himself in contention for the New Zealand U17 World Cup squad. These ambitions provide us with clear development targets while we simultaneously build his U.S. college profile. If Xavier and his family move forward with Platform Sports, our immediate priority will be to begin the preparation and onboarding process: completing a detailed academic evaluation, assessing his football background and footage, building his student-athlete profile and college résumé, identifying eligibility requirements, and establishing a personalised roadmap toward recruitment. From there, our placement team will actively network Xavier with suitable college coaches, facilitate coach conversations, compare opportunities and scholarship packages, and support the family through the decision, application, visa and transition process. Ongoing support continues beyond placement so Xavier and his family have a team available throughout his college journey. Immediate next steps: Xavier will provide available school and Cambridge FC game footage for review, Platform Sports will seek additional football feedback from Aaron Scott, and once the family is ready to proceed we can move directly into onboarding and begin mapping out Xavier’s academic and athletic plan.
